Dr Matthews offers counseling services to individuals, couples, and families at our Garland location in addition to her amazing career in academia. She specializes in those who have been negatively affected by or are in the process of leaving religiously abusive or cult environments. She graduated with a PhD and Masters in Counseling from Texas A&M University-Commerce and has currently over 20 years of clinical experience. Dr Matthews utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Adlerian therapy. She says “Above all, I am a person-centered therapist, emulating the values of empathy, genuineness, and non-judgment.”
Her private practice specializes in religious abuse & cult recovery, depression/anxiety/stress, LGBTQ+ issues/gender identity, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, sexual, emotional, & and physical abuse, anger management, domestic violence, sex therapy, premarital counseling, communication skills, crisis management, and relationship effectiveness.
