EMDR Intensives
A dedicated space to heal deeper, move faster, and reclaim your life from the weight of the past.
You don’t have to stay stuck in the cycle of "getting by." Our EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) intensive sessions in Texas provide a structured, short-term option for clients who want to address trauma more efficiently, alongside other specialised services such as Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), gender-affirming assessments and support, and mental health check-ups.
Traditional therapy is a lifeline. But sometimes, an hour a week isn’t enough.
Do you ever feel like you spend the first 20 minutes of your weekly therapy session just catching up, and the last 15 minutes trying to "hold it together" so you can drive home?
When you are dealing with deep-seated trauma, old wounds, or high-stress life events, the stop-and-start nature of traditional therapy can feel frustrating. Just as you’re reaching the heart of the matter, the clock runs out.
At Room for Change, we believe you shouldn't have to wait months or years to feel relief.
What is an EMDR intensive?
EMDR is a gold-standard, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain "re-file" traumatic memories so they no longer cause distress in the present.
An EMDR intensive is a concentrated, short-term treatment program designed to help you process trauma more efficiently. By dedicating 20 hours across 4 days, we create a "sacred container" where your brain can focus entirely on its own healing without the interruptions of daily life.
By staying in the "processing zone" for several hours at a time, your nervous system can move past the logic of the mind and finally release the physical and emotional weight of your experiences.
“Opening and closing emotional wounds over months and months with clients is painful for both parties. Intensives allow the client to dive in and dive deep without the pain of revisiting their trauma over and over again in weekly sessions – while the counselor gets the benefit of witnessing rapid healing and relief. Both parties achieve so much over an abridged period of time from start to finish.”
Benefits of EMDR Intensives
Less Emotional "Whiplash"
Opening up trauma once a week can feel like reopening a wound, only to have to bandage it up an hour later. Intensives allow us to keep the wound clean and treated until it is actually healed, reducing the "emotional hangover" that often follows weekly sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. It’s an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they no longer feel overwhelmed or emotionally charged in the present.
-
It is significant work, but it is structured with breaks and nervous system support. Most clients find it far less exhausting than the "chronic stress" of carrying trauma for another six months.
-
For many clients, yes – especially if weekly therapy feels slow or disruptive. EMDR intensives allow for deeper focus, fewer emotional start-and-stop cycles, and more continuity in processing trauma. While they require a greater upfront time and financial commitment, many clients find the overall timeline to relief is shorter.
-
EMDR intensives are wonderful for people dealing with PTSD, childhood trauma, or "blocking beliefs" (like feeling I’m not enough or I’m unsafe). It’s also ideal for those who have a big life change coming up and want to enter it with a clear head.
-
If you are currently in an active crisis (such as active addiction or immediate safety concerns), we may recommend stabilization work before starting an intensive. We will determine this together during your consultation.
-
Blocking beliefs are negative conclusions formed during traumatic experiences, such as “I’m not safe,” “I’m powerless,” or “It was my fault.”
In EMDR, these beliefs are identified and reprocessed so they no longer shape reactions, self-worth, or decision-making in daily life.
-
Weekly EMDR typically unfolds over months, with limited processing time per session. EMDR intensives provide extended, consecutive sessions that allow clients to stay engaged in the work, often leading to faster integration and fewer interruptions between sessions.
